Want Beautiful Skin? 3 Words: Rose Water Toner

You’ve probably seen the word toner associated with rose water quite a bit. I know I thought it was an outdated beauty remedy and didn’t like the smell. Little did I know the “rose” I was used to was the fragrance full of chemicals, not pure rose water.

There’s a good reason why it is considered a toner though. “Our skin is actually acidic with a pH of 4.5 to 5.5,” explains David Pollock, beauty developer for Smashbox, Lancôme, and many more. “However, most skin care products have a pH of 6.0 to 7.5.”

These high pH products throw our skin all out of whack and can make existing skin conditions like rosacea, psoriasis, acne, and wrinkles worse. But rose water’s naturally low pH of 5.5 helps rest the natural balance. “As a result, rose water helps soothe and calm the skin — reducing skin irritation,” says Pollock.

I personally love spritzing with our hydrating rose toner before applying makeup and after double cleansing. It gives your skin the right amount of moisture, without leaving the skin looking oily.
